Poor Ironhide. Blown to bits. I had a thought the other day about something they shoulda done in Transformers the Movie. So Ironhide gets shot in the head and upper torso by Megatron. For a moment let's imagine what that looks like. See it yet? I'm thinking his remains will look like his G1 toy. The G1 toy, disliked by many, was originally designed to be more like a mechanized exosuit controlled by a human. So imagine, one of the Autobot engineers takes Ironhide's remains and makes it into an exosuit for Spike or Daniel. It would've been such a fitting way to keep his memory alive and finally do justice to his G1 toy. You could've made an oversized G1 Ironhide and sold it as a special edition for Transformers the Movie with a tiny Spike or Daniel figure.

Then, I was drawing Hot Rod the other day and I felt he kinda looked like Ironhide. And then I got to thinking of that rumor that Ironhide was a candidate to get the matrix after Optimus Prime died. Then I got to thinking that Peter Cullen voices Optimus Prime and Ironhide. It would have allowed Peter Cullen to stay on the show. A way to have kids get a new Autobot leader but behind the scenes it's the same voice.

And as far as toys go -- Ironhide's G1 toy alt mode has some similarities to the Rodimus Prime G1 toy. Just shrink the front cab a bit, extend it forward and add flames. What if, when Ironhide died, they salvaged his body parts and Hot Rod upgraded his body to Rodimus via physical upgrade rather than magical Matrix upgrade, a la magic beans from Jack and the Beanstalk? And what If Ironhide was a mentor to Hot Rod so that it was doubly important that Ironhide's parts helped form Hot Rod into his Autobot leader Rodimus Prime body? Imagine a scene where Spike and Bumblebee posthumously spraypaint flames on a salvaged Ironhide rear van portion. It just feels more grounded to me.

Upgrading a Transformers' body should be grounded in reality. Like Alpha Trion actually got his hands dirty and engineered Prime. Um or did he just cooked instant noodles while sticking the Matrix in Orion Pax and Optimus Prime magically formed? But waita minute. Ultra Magnus didn't grow when he got the Matrix. That's a bummer for Magnus right? He always gets the short end of the stick. He shoulda grown to Akom size and stepped on Galvatron.
